Christmas 2009

We spent Christmas and Boxing Day in Te Kaha this year. The weather was great, food was great and the company! Looking forward to 2010, we have a full on work programme and need to be well rested for it!

Work in Progress

Katz is currently working on a project with the Auckland City Council, producing whakairo for a new Puketapapa walkway in Auckland. Phase one of the project is producing a series of pou to line the walkway, and the second phase is a Waharoa.

Ta Moko Tatau Tattoo Convention Auckland 2009

Katz is heading off to the Tā Moko Tatau Tattoo Convention this week - the convention is international and is an awesome opportunity to meet other tattoo artists and catch up with old friends.

Toi Okahu Wānanga 29 - 30 August 2009




The inaugural Toi Okahu (Ngāti Whātua ki Orakei Arts Collective) wānanga was held at Orakei Marae, Auckland 29-30 August. The theme of the wānanga was to provide learning opportunities for ngā uri o Ngāti Whātua to explore various art forms including whakairo, rāranga, film and photography and painting. The young, and not so young attended and got hands on experience. The whakairo is a kumete which will be used by to dye harakeke for rāranga projects.

Poupou at Vector Arena


The poupou outside Vector Arena have been installed with Katz's carving being cast and replicated along the poupou. These poupou stand outside the main entrance of Vector Arena, Auckland.

Poupou Unveiled at Orakei Marae Tamaki Makaurau


Two poupou were unveiled at Orakei Marae on Saturday 8th August. The poupou were blessed by kaumatua Maurice Wilson and Takutai Wikiriwhi, and the iwi were there in full force.
